Window Type Guide

Find the Perfect Curtains for Every Window

Not all windows are created equal — and that’s why we offer made-to-measure solutions for every style. Whether you have a standard window or a more unique shape, our guide will help you choose the best curtain solution.

🪟 1. Standard Windows

Most Common in UK Homes

  • Typically rectangular and single or double panel.

  • Best Curtain Styles: Eyelet, pencil pleat, pinch pleat

  • Top Tip: Fit the curtain pole 15–20cm above the window for a taller look.

🪞 2. Bay Windows

Elegant but Tricky to Dress

  • Usually feature three or more panels angled around a curve.

  • Best Options:

    • Flexible curtain tracks or custom bay window poles

    • Pinch pleat or pencil pleat headings work well

  • Top Tip: Measure carefully across all angles; we can help with custom fitting.

⛰️ 3. Apex / Triangular Windows

Found in lofts or gable-end properties

  • Sloping top edge creates a unique design challenge.

  • Best Options:

    • Custom-made curtains on angled tracks

    • Can be combined with voile panels or blinds

  • Top Tip: Pair with blackout lining if in a bedroom.

🚪 4. French Doors / Patio Doors

Large glass areas that open out

  • Need curtains that can move easily and allow full access.

  • Best Curtain Styles:

    • Eyelet or wave curtains for smooth glide

    • Thermal lining to reduce heat loss

  • Top Tip: Extend the curtain track well past the door edges for a clear opening.

🏠 5. Sash Windows

Period-style vertical sliding windows

  • Found in many Victorian and Georgian homes.

  • Best Curtain Styles: Pencil pleat or sheer panels

  • Top Tip: Use a pole or track fitted high to add height to the room.

🧱 6. Skylights / Roof Windows

Set into the roof for natural light

  • Curtains usually not practical. Consider:

    • Blackout blinds

    • Roof window shutters

  • Top Tip: Use a professional measurement and installation service for best fit.
