How to fit
Fit to the instructions supplied with your chosen track, pole and brackets. These steps help you plan; fixing spacing and load limits come from the hardware manufacturer.
1. Check the surface and hardware
Identify the fixing surface and use suitable fixings for it and the combined load. Check for concealed cables and pipes. Have the correct brackets, fixings, tape measure, pencil, level, suitable drill and safe access equipment ready. If the surface or load is uncertain, use a qualified installer.
2. Mark and align
Mark the intended curtain top and bracket positions. Check wall projection or ceiling clearance against handles, sills and radiators. Follow the track or pole instructions for support spacing; do not invent unsupported spans.
3. Fit and check movement
Secure the hardware, check alignment and test the running parts before hanging curtains. Use assistance for large or heavy curtains. Stop if fixings move or the track binds.
4. Hang and dress
Distribute hooks and heading folds evenly. Check the hem clearance and open and close the curtains gently. Let folds settle naturally; follow the fabric care instructions before steaming or ironing.
Common fitting mistakes
Using unsuitable fixings; missing required supports; checking the level only at one point; ignoring door or handle clearance; hanging heavy curtains without help; treating a specialist sloping track like a straight track.
